It's the Grammys

Just a few thoughts on last night's Grammys show.

  • Yay for two Bruno Mars performances!  I wish he had done Perm or Finesse instead of Versace for the first song, but I was so glad he was back for the Prince tribute.  He was fantastic!
  • So great to see The Time.  Morris and Jerome look great.
  • I was pleasantly surprised by Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood's performance--I probably liked it because it didn't sound much like a country song.
  • I loved that they mentioned Sharon Jones' passing and that the Dap Kings performed with Sturgill Simpson.  I'd never heard of him before, but it was a great performance.  Horns and country music--who knew?!  I can't find the video yet, but I'll post it when I do.
  • It was great to see A Tribe Called Quest and Busta Rhymes referring to "President Agent Orange" cracked me up.
  • Beyoncé and whatever the F she did.  No.  I just can't.  (Apparently everyone on Twitter can, but I can't.)
  • Needless to say, I was pleased that Adele swept Beyoncé in the big categories and so was a bit disappointed that in Adele's final acceptance speech, all she did was gush over Beyoncé.  Groan.  I told my sister that maybe Adele was just being proactive in keeping Kanye from bum-rushing the stage.

Loved Bruno's first performance. His Prince tribute...meh. I wasn't feeling it. I heard one of the local radio personalities saying she didn't like it either. She felt he should have just been Bruno singing in honor of Prince vs. dressing like him, having a guitar like him, etc. I agree. Might as well put a Bruno twist on it. IMHO.

I'm now realizing why Adele was gushing over Beyonce. Apparently everyone one, including the lovely Rolling Stone writers/experts, say Lemonade should have one for best album. And Adele totally agrees with that. Hence the gushing. I still could have done without.

Loved the Sharon Jones tribute and that guy Sturgill. I'm definitely looking him up.

One of my favorite parts of the show was when Adele was thanking her manager who she says she loves like her dad but then had to explain that she doesn't actually love her dad, but that sounds bad, so it's love she would have if she loved her dad. Or something along those lines. Haha! I want to be Adele's BFF. And 2nd favorite...Agent Orange. Gotta love that Tribe.

ah! great re-cap. i wish bruno had done "finesse" or "perm" too. but i guess they've slated "versace" as the next single. but hopefully the others will follow. and i loved his prince tribute. i just wish it had been longer!

did you see the youtube video of keith and nicole singing that song in the car? it was so cute and seemed so off-the-cuff. so i didn't really pay much attention to the performance on the grammy's, i did notice it was the same song. too bad nicole didn't sing it with him instead- i think they seem solid together and i love that. how weird that she was married to tom cruise all those years and now she's with someone that seems so cool and so NORMAL.
